What is your favorite childhood drink? Mine has always been a Shirley Temple.
A Shirley Temple is typically a soft drink made with lemon-lime soda and grenadine. Of course, there’s always the optional maraschino cherries to take up a notch!it
Some of my earliest memories involve this special fruity drink.
My favorite way to make it back in the day was with Sprite and a healthy dose of grenadine. If you didn’t know, grenadine can come alcoholic or non-alcoholic.
When we were around ten years old, my friend and I accidentally used alcoholic grenadine in our homemade Shirley Temples. We thought her parents would freak out.
We thought the drinks tasted funny and immediately confessed to her mom that we had put alcohol in them. Obviously, we were a pair of goody-two-shoes. We thought she would be upset, but she only laughed and thought the mix-up was hilarious.
When I used to occasionally get to go to a fancy restaurant with my parents in downtown Nashville, I would usually be allowed to order a Shirley Temple. This restaurant was my favorite, because their overly-attentive waiters would usually refill a drink if the glass was even half empty.
My younger self loved this, as I inadvertently would usually get two or three drinks in one night because they just kept bringing them without me having to ask. While my parents didn’t appreciate this, I loved it!
Alex and I were brainstorming fun drinks we could make in our Ninja Thirsti, and we decided this fruity classic had to be the first.
This easy Ninja Thirsti recipe only took three ingredients and a few minutes to make! It’s safe to say I won’t need to be ordering Shirley Temples out at restaurants anymore now that I can make my own!
